Not Everyone Deserves an Explanation

Not everyone deserves an explanation.

No is a complete sentence.

Explaining your rationale is a pattern you've been funding at the cost of your own authority.

You have been trained to explain yourself. To justify. To provide context. To make people comfortable with your decisions before they've even objected.

This is exhausting and it is not required.

Not every decision needs a defense. Not every choice needs to be negotiated.

Not every person in your life is entitled to understand why you're doing what you're doing.

The explanation compulsion comes from one belief: that if you don't justify yourself, people will judge you.

They might.

That is their right.

It is not a problem you are required to solve, however.

Does what that person think about you really matter? Do they realistically impact your life at the end of the day?

Explaining yourself to people who will judge you anyway does not prevent the judgment. It simply gives them more material.

Be ruthlessly strategic with that material.

Decide. Act. If someone with a real stake in your decision deserves your reasoning, give it. Everyone else gets your decision.

That is enough.

Start there. Everything else waits.
